When you send you dog overseas you will need a dog box – you can buy a plastic dog box but they are a lot more expensive – the upside of a wooden box is that it is warmer than a plastic box – and cooler in hot temperatures. The dog box needs to have a water bowl and good ventilation – it also needs to be sturdy enough for a trip in the aeroplane hold. You can buy a dog box directly or you can ask your dog transport company to buy one for you.

You will need to measure your dog to see how big the box should be – don’t skimp – your dog needs space – especially if the dog is travelling a long distance. Rather make your dog box too big rather than too small. Make sure their is a strong latch on the box and that there are no sharp edges or splinters on the box. It is probably a good idea to write your details on to the box and a contact number and delivery address. The airlines charge for volumetric weight so don’t go overboard on size – 10cm bigger than your dog on each side is a good size for a dog box.
